She did not expect things would end like this.
The world that was shining through was a good world, a better world than the darkness full of superstitions that her country had been engulfed in for too long. The Enlightement that had swept Europe was already making its way, and Elisabeth and her husband were helping to lead it.
But nothing good lasts forever, and darkness swept again.
They were lucky, though. They could leave for England with barely the clothes they were wearing.
But all what was lost, all those they lost...
Elisabeth would lie if she said it didn’t hurt.
